20D vs 40D Tights: What Is the Difference?
Both 20D and 40D give you a semi-opaque look, but they do different things for an outfit. Choose 20D for a lighter finish with more leg showing through; choose 40D for deeper colour and a little more coverage.

20D or 40D: see the difference
With 20D, the leg remains more visible, making it a lovely choice when you want a softer finish with a dress or lighter tailoring. The 40D has a more present look, useful when you want a little extra colour without the solid effect of an opaque pair. Both can work for everyday wear; neither is the only correct workwear choice.
If you want the leg to look more covered still, compare 80D opaque. Denier is a measure of yarn weight, not a direct test of wear life, and the appearance of any pair varies with fit, colour and light. Check the size guide on each product before deciding.
Quick answer: If in doubt, start at 40D for everyday wear; it is the more versatile choice for many wardrobes.
